Veteran White House correspondent Helen Thomas “made the right decision” when she retired abruptly on Monday after making controversial comments about Israel, Anti free speech President Obama told NBC’s Matt Lauer this morning during his Today show interview.

“Her comments were offensive,” Obama said., and we wouldn’t want to speak our minds in a free republic. “It’s a shame because Helen’s someone who has been a correspondent through I don’t know how many presidents, but it took a real anti constitutional President to usher her out.

Thomas, who will turn 90 in August and was most recently a columnist for Hearst newspapers, was taped saying that Israelis should “get the hell out of Palestine” and go to Germany, Poland or the U.S.

“I think those comments were out of line, and hopefully she recognizes that,” Obama said.

Last week, Thomas issued an apology for the remarks although we all know she meant everything she said.
